OBITUARIES

Cecile Saizon Gonzales
December 18, 1920 - January 30, 2010

Cecile Saizon Gonzales passed peacefully on Saturday night, Jan. 30, 2010, in the loving company of her daughter, Sandra Warriner and her granddaughter, Lori Warriner. She lived a vibrant 89 years. Cile is also survived by a grandson, Derek Warriner; and two sisters, Violet Cox and Ruby Lee Tarver. Her late brothers and sisters include Cora Dixon, Willie Mae Deslatte, Erma MacMurray, Rena Saizon, Floyd Saizon, Frank Saizon, Byron Saizon and Jim Saizon. Born in Baton Rouge on Dec. 18, 1920, to Willie Saizon and Janie Sholar, Cile was the second oldest of 11 children. After the unexpected death of her mother, Cile would become the mother and caretaker of all the children in the family at age 16 - an experience that would prove formative in a life spent unconditionally caring for all those around her. Cile's strength and resourcefulness defined her - as did the bond with her siblings. She was a devoted wife to Jerry James Gonzales for 35 years. They had a daughter together, Sandra Ann, in 1946. Cile loved to fish and watch her husband race stock cars. She was famous for her lemon pies and pralines. Her grandchildren, Lori and Derek, idolized their Nana and had the great fortune to spend time with Cile as children and as adults. For them, she was an island and an escape - a tower of strength. Courageous to the end, Cile will be missed by all those blessed with her love and friendship. Join the family in honoring Cile's memory at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, (225) 753-1440. A viewing will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The service will be on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Alzheimer's Association in memory of Cecile Gonzales at Alzheimer's Association , P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
