Richard Fitzgerald Mason, 72, died at peace on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Wilson Mason; daughter, Laura Fereday and husband Tom; three grandchildren, Mason, Jacob and Rachel Fereday, all of Prairieville; son Brett Mason and his fiancée, Candice White and her son, Mason White, of Anaheim, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie and Cecil Mason. Richard was born in Friars Point, Miss., and graduated from Mississippi State University with a degree in electrical engineering. He began his working days at the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Ala., and later moved to New Orleans to work for Chrysler. Eventually, he went to work for Chevron; he retired with them in 1995 and settled in Baton Rouge. After retiring he discovered a new hobby in 2002, flying remote control airplanes. He joined two clubs and made many new, good friends through this hobby. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend who will be missed by all. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Monday, Feb. 8, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting continues at the funeral home on Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 10 a.m. until service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Baton Rouge Hospice or Greater Baton Rouge Cancer Services
