Norman is in the hands of our Lord and Savior. He was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Tullos and died peacefully Thursday morning, March 4, 2010, at the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice. He was a native of New London, Texas, and moved to Krotz Springs in 1957. He resided in Krotz Springs and Erwinville for many years and in 2008 became a resident of the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Saufley (DD-465) and the USS Parker (DD-604), earning a Victory Medal. He is survived by his former wife and dear friend, Lucretia Meadows Gunn; daughter, Sharon Walton and husband Don Walton, of Baton Rouge; son, Charles Wayne Gunn and wife Wanda Dean Gunn, of Dallas; grandson, Shane Walton and wife Nikki Walton, of Melville; two great-grandsons, Ty and Bryce Walton; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, David and Ruby Pearl Gunn; a brother, H. D. Gunn; and a sister, Yvonne Taylor Hankins. Pallbearers will be George Taylor, Baytown, Texas, Sergio Alaniz, Henderson, Texas, Harold Hankins, Canton, Ohio, Douglas Hankins, Henderson, and Donnie Kimble and Damien Kimble, both of Baton Rouge. Honorary pallbearers are Bryan Kimble and Blake Kimble, both of Krotz Springs. After his discharge from the Navy, he attended college and started to work the East Texas oilfields for Gulf Oil until being transferred to the Krotz Springs facility in 1957. He was a plant operator and retired with 37 years of service from Chevron, formerly Gulf Oil. His love for the country included raising cattle and horses, baling hay and farming. His pastime included watching football, especially any Texas team, and he was an avid reader. Funeral services were held Saturday, March 6, 2010, at Resthaven Gardens of Memory Chapel, Baton Rouge, and were conducted by the Rev. Richard Wallace of Stevendale Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their thanks for the excellent care, compassion and love that was given by the doctors, nurses and staff at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson; Lane Regional Medical Center in Zachary; the Carpenter House of St. Joseph Hospice, Baton Rouge; and all the caregivers and sitters. The family wishes to give special recognition and thanks to Lowell Sibille. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Louisiana War Veterans Home, the Carpenter House, St. Joseph Hospice, the American Diabetic Association or favorite charity.
