"The Lord is my shepherd. I shall not want." Psalm 23:1. Vemie was born Feb. 27, 1919, in White Castle. She died Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at age 91 at her Baker home of 56 years, as was her wish, surrounded by loved ones. Survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Marlin DeArmond; daughter, Marian Hymel; former son-in-law, Donald Hymel Sr.; brother, Odger Wunstel and wife Leona; four grandchildren, Lynette and husband Richard Johnson, Donald Hymel Jr., Michael Hymel and wife Sue, and Allen Hymel and wife Christine; 10 great-grandchildren, Jermey Hymel, Michael Johnson and wife Jessica, Brian Johnson and wife Christina, Derek Johnson and girlfriend Tiffany Sparks, Jessica Connelly, Ashley and husband Adam Hunt, Cory Bennett, Austin Brashier and Jared and Skyler Romano; four great-great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Lana Johnson, Ethan and Anthony Hymel; soon to be here granddaughter, Lily Grace and grandbaby Hunt; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Last but not least, also survived her loving caregivers and friend, Faye Carroll, Tracy Bolyer and other friends and family. Preceded in death by her parents, O.B. and Delphine Wunstel; two sisters, Effie and Myrtle; and four brothers, Buddy, Fritz, Edgar and Huey. Pallbearers will her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers are Donald Hymel Sr., Sonny DeArmond and Gerald Bonds. Visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home chapel Saturday, July 31, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Afterward, services will begin with a prayer by Brother Tom Simmons. Paul Bateman will sing a few of Vernie's favorite songs. The Rev. Bill Bolton will conduct the remainder of the service. She will be laid to rest in the Garden of the Good Shepherd at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
