Wilton Phillips Jr., born Dec.12, 1926, passed away at home on Friday, April 13, 2012, at 2p.m. due to complications of pneumonia. He was a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Tuesday, April 17, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visiting resumes at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 18, from 11a.m. until service at 1 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Mike Holmes. Interment in Rest-haven Gardens of Memory. Wilton is survived by his second wife, Jane Olson-Phillips; daughter, Susan Dearolf; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Robin; grandson, Jeremy Paul Robin; great-grandson, Spencer Nicholas Robin; and great-granddaughter, Patricia Louise Robin. Also, stepson, Derek Olson, granddaughter, Isabelle Olson, stepson, Blane Olson, wife, Ali Olson, stepson, Everett Olson, wife, Rachel Olson, and granddaughters, Karisha Olson and Leila Olson. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia Louise Phillips; brother, Oliver Phillips; sister, Sarah Reynolds; and brother-in-law, Cletus Reynolds. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Phillips; sister-in-law, Celeste Phillips; sister-in-law, Marguerite Owens; and various nieces and nephews. He was a graduate of Baton Rouge Senior High School (1944) and LSU (1950) with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a corporal in the U.S. Air Corps from July 1944 to November 1946.He then became a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve, serving from 1957 to1975. From 1951 until his retirement in 1992, he was employed by Ethyl Corp. For three years he worked in the General Engineering Dept. as a construction estimator, and 10 years as a mechanical development engineer, designing piping, pressure vessels, small reactors, pilot plants and supervising construction of same. For 10 years in the Visqueen Division of Ethyl, he served first as a packaging engineer, working with customers on new applications for polyethylene film and later as product manager for poly shrink films and as national sales manager for shrink films. He served three years in General engineering as senior engineer, supervising pilot plant design, construction and also supervised mechanical installation of a large paper making machine in Maine. In Research and Development, he headed a group of engineers and draftsmen designing and constructing pilot plants for making drugs and chemicals. Then he worked two years as manager of Maintenance and Construction. Wilton’s hobby was wood-working and he made many lovely pieces of furniture. A gregarious and fun-loving person, he and Jane enjoyed eight years together.
