Albert S. Greene, Jr. passed away at home on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born May 24, 1937, in Homer, LA, to Albert Sr. and Lizzie Mae Clary Greene. Albert was a 1956 graduate of Homer High School where he lettered in football and track. He served honorably in the National Guard in Homer, and in the Army Reserve in Baton Rouge. On March 8, 1958, Albert married the love of his life, Janette Nelson, in Baton Rouge at Evangeline Street Church of God, a happy union that lasted 67 years until, as they had vowed, death parted them. They were longtime members of Greenwell Springs Baptist Church.
With Janette at his side, Albert channeled his great work ethic and natural entrepreneurial spirit and founded AG Building Specialists. Eight years later he would start his second successful business, Acoustical Specialties & Supply. These two enterprises would grow and provide a good living for Albert and his family, and good jobs for hundreds of others.
Although Albert devoted much of his time to work and business, he was also known for his large gardens, fruit orchards, beautiful park-like yards, and a passion for hunting the piney hills of Claiborne Parish in North Louisiana. He said he felt closest to God when in the woods, loved sitting down to a table where almost everything on the plate was the fruit of his labor, and having surplus to share with family, friends and employees. He was faithful, loving, generous, wise, and fun, and will be greatly missed.
Albert is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janette Nelson Greene; his parents Albert Sr. and Lizzie and wonderful stepfather, Gerald Ruple; his son, Albert Nelson Greene; his sister, Patsy Greene Cahoon; his brother, George C. Ruple; and his granddaughter, Danielle Elizabeth Wright.
He is survived by his daughters, Robin Wright (Richard), and Donna Phillips (Steve); his sister, Wanda Boyles (late husband Woody Boyles); his brother, Gerald K. Ruple (Colleen); his grandchildren, Rebekah Phillips Puryear (Dustin), and Joel Phillips. He is also survived by his step-great-grandsons, Cooper and Luca Puryear; as well as numerous other loving family and friends.
The family would like to give special thanks to Tami Tucker and the wonderful caregivers of Cast A Line Care LLC for their around-the-clock care that allowed Albert and Janette to live in their own home together in their latter years. The amazing staff and nurses at Hospice in His Care were such a comfort as they helped ease the passing of first Janette and then Albert seven months later.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Eternal Faith Mausoleum at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. The family would like to invite all relatives and friends to a reception after the entombment at Acoustical Specialties & Supply at 12434 So Choctaw Dr beginning at 12:45 p.m.
