Allan Roy Allbritton, DVM, PhD, age 91, passed after a long illness under hospice care at the Pearl at Jamestown, an assisted living facility in Baton Rouge on August 17, 2026 He was pre-deceased by his wife of over 70 years Irene Shiel Allbritton who died August 20, 2024. Allan and Irene were long-time members of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Gonzales. Allan served for decades as an usher at St. Theresa, a task at which he was quite devoted.

Allan was a long-time and well-known resident of Ascension Parish where he ran a successful practice of veterinary medicine with specialties in veterinary immunology and dermatology. Allan was born in Tullos, LA on May 16, 1935 graduating from high school in 1953. He attended college at LSU and subsequently obtained his veterinary degree from Texas A&M and his PhD in immunology from the University of Missouri in Columbia. After their marriage, Allan and Irene lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; College Station, Texas; Marksville, Louisiana; Columbia, Missouri; and Starkville, Mississippi before moving to Gonzales in 1972 where Allan established the Gonzales Animal Clinic. Allan and Irene worked alongside each other at the clinic for over 50 years being both liked and highly respected members of the community.

In addition to his successful practice in Gonzales, he maintained an active immunology and dermatology specialty clinic in New Orleans for many years. Allan also taught at LSU’s School of Veterinary Medicine and was the former President of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association. Among his many hobbies, he was a successful privateer race car driver in the 1960’s with many wins at Green Valley Raceway in Texas, Lake Charles, Louisiana, Stuttgart, Arkansas among others. His 1965 Shelby Mustang GT350 bearing serial number 5S195 is on display at the Shelby American Collection historic car museum in Boulder, Colorado. He was also the South West Regional Champion of the Sports Car Club of America in 1968 driving his 427 Shelby Cobra (serial number CSX3115) now on display in a private collection in North Carolina. Allan enjoyed working on cars as much as racing and with his partner Ted Melancon had a small foreign car restoration business. Allan was also a pilot and for several years ran an air taxi service out of Baton Rouge.

Allan is survived by his five daughters, Susan Murphy of Massachusetts, Nancy Allbritton of Washington, Sherry Jane Love of Arizona, Mary Ann Allbritton of Oklahoma, and Jill Allbritton of British Columbia. Allan is also survived by seven grandchildren.

Private services and burial will be at Resthaven Gardens with Memorial Mass to be held later.
