Alvin “AD” Dermon Hebert, Sr., born in Plaquemine and a long-time resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 10, 2025 at the age of 94. He was a graduate of St. John in Plaquemine. On October 24, 1953, he married Carlin A. Arceneaux. AD spent two years with U.S Army where he served as a Technical Instructor. He started as a lineman with South Central Bell and later became a PBX Installer with AT&T. AD was also a member of the Pioneers.
He served as an usher for the past 30 years at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church. It was only in the past year he gave up being head usher, but remained active as an usher. He was very proud of his legacy of children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, where he enjoyed fishing on his son’s houseboat in the Spillway. Alvin was quite the handyman, always fixing or repairing something and making it better than what it was originally. He would never turn anyone away if they needed help, including family, friends, and neighbors.
Alvin is survived by his loving wife, Carlin Hebert; his children, Paula Kairdolf (Errol), Alvin Hebert, Jr., Byron Hebert, Tina Coston (Steve), Brett Hebert, Eric Hebert (Deborah), Mary Clark (Wayne); adopted daughter, Nancy Mensik (Mike); 21 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; a sister, Doris “Pie” Boyett; and sister-in-law, Betty Jane Dupont Hebert.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Adam “Pope” Hebert and Vivian “Vee” Schexnaildre Hebert; brothers, Donald Hebert (Bobbie), and Glynn Hebert; sisters, Mary Alice Suarez (Ronald), and Joann Hebert; and brother-in-law, Sam Boyett.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 16, 2025, at St. Alphonsus Liguori Catholic Church, 14040 Greenwell Springs Rd. Greenwell Springs, LA 70739, from 10:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be his 7 grandchildren, Ryan Kairdolf, Adam Hebert, Brad Hebert, Cody Coston, Brett A. Hebert, Chase Hebert, and Connor Burns. Altar servers will be his great-grandchildren, Elliott Beard and Hadlie Beard. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
