Ancy Firnberg

Ancy Jo Cruse Firnberg, age 84, passed away peacefully July 20 at home after several years of declining health. Ancy was born January 7, 1937, in Alexandria, LA to Kathleen Peters Cruse and Joseph E. Cruse

Ancy Firnberg is survived by her husband of 63 years, James W. "Jim" Firnberg, Sr. and four sons and daughters-in-law, James W. "Jamey" Firnberg, Jr. (Karen), Edward E. "Ted" Firnberg (Christy), William C. "Bill" Firnberg (Sherri), and Timothy C. ''Tim" Firnberg (Shea), all of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; four grandchildren, Paige Firnberg (Sam Collura) of Savannah, Georgia, Cameron Firnberg of New Orleans Leighton Firnberg Samson (Clayton) of New Orleans, and Logan Firnberg of Baton Rouge. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Earleen Cruse Myers.

She graduated from Bolton High School in 1954 and received bachelor's and master's degrees in education from Louisiana State University. Ancy taught first or second grades in Lake Charles, Baton Rouge and St. Amant and kindergarten at Broadmoor United Methodist.

In 1977 she took early retirement from teaching and founded School Aids, Inc., a retail and catalog business specializing in educational materials, supplies and equipment for teachers and parents. Ancy was active in the National School Supply and Equipment Association and served on the board of directors and one term as secretary. She was a partner in the School Suppliers Catalog Group, a company that developed and published catalogs for the school supply industry.

Ancy enjoyed good true crime novels and television shows, Words with Friends, and visits with her longtime friends, "The Fab Five". She adored her family and hosted many family get-togethers. Her stories will live on to be retold by her family who loved and will miss her greatly.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory and Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., Baton Rouge, Louisiana from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Monday, July 26, 2021, followed by a brief service at 12:00 PM, conducted by Rev. John R. Williams. A reception will follow immediately. Interment will follow at Resthaven Mausoleum attended by immediate family.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Ollie Steele Burden Manor, Clarity Hospice and especially her caregivers for their dedicated and compassionate service over the past several months.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a favorite charity.
