Anthony “Mickey” Graphia, a life-long resident of Baton Rouge, passed away on Wednesday, November 15th at the age of 85.
After graduating from Catholic High School, he went on to work for Manda Fine Meats. Self-made and from humble beginnings, Mickey eventually ventured out on his own founding 4 Star Meats of La. He served as the President and CEO of 4 Star, building a successful career alongside his son.
Mickey had larger than life hobbies and enjoyed them to the fullest all the way from Las Vegas to the Mississippi Gulf Coast down to rural Louisiana. Mickey loved relaxing at his fishing camp in Springfield, La. and “The Property” in Amite, La. where he spent his weekends hunting and fishing with his grandchildren. Mickey was a champion poker player who competed in the World Series of Poker satellite tournaments. Aside from his children and grandchildren, Mickey’s true passions were playing cards, fishing, and watching sports on TV.
Mickey married Sylvia Spillman in 1955 and the two enjoyed over 50 years of marriage. They had four children, Paula Sanchez (John, Jr.), Sheryl Phipps (Stacy), Mickey Graphia (Lisa) and Dana Endsley (Ferral). He had 9 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a longtime companion in Marsha Barbari. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia Spillman; mother, Mary Polito; and father, Samuel Graphia.
Visitation will take place at Resthaven Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 21st from 9:30 am until Catholic Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Mickey was a member of the Army National Guard and will receive an honorable veteran’s burial. Pallbearers are Mickey and Cody Graphia, Miller and Myles McCants, and Tate Hicks. Honorary pallbearers are Jameson and Jennings Fitzmorris and Emmett Rispone.
