Arthur “Skip” Byron Cook passed away on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, at the age of 84. He was born in Seattle, Washington on June 24, 1941, to Harry and Myrtle Cook. Skip graduated from Pasco High School and attended the University of Washington. After he graduated high school, he served in the United States Navy for six years. He was a member of Boulevard Park Community Church in Burien, WA, and Grace Life Fellowship in Baton Rouge, LA. Skip supported missionary work both domestic and international, and truly enjoyed greeting guests at church on Sundays.

In his younger years, Skip loved to drag race and work on cars. Skip spent his adult years at the computer for work and fun and loved to substitute teach at The Dunham School. He also had a passion for classical music. Skip never met a stranger anywhere he went and truly cared about people. He always had a great “Dad joke” to share and loved Jesus with his whole heart and soul.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Standish Cook and Myrtle Weedin Cook; and his brother, Charles Irving Cook.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Babette Light Cook; daughters, Aelyese Cook Mauk (Gary), Amanda Cook McIlwain (Mitchell); son, Aaron Matthew Cook (Bethany); sisters, Helen Kay Cook Heinz and Roxanna Cook Goodwin; and grandchildren, Raury Arthur Mauk, Connor Edward Mauk, Gable Charles Mauk, Madison Claire McIlwain, Anna Elizabeth McIlwain, and Camilla Mary Ellen Cook.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the ALS Association of Louisiana-Mississippi Chapter in Skip’s name.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Bess and Melvin Stacy for years of support and friendship, Mark, Pam, and Joshua McIlwain who is our extended Louisiana family, Tim Chalas and Tim Boswell from Grace Life Fellowship for always pointing us to Jesus and walking through the trials of life with us so faithfully, and the Saint Gabriel Police Chief, Kevin Ambeau, our neighbor, friend, and brother in Christ.

A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
