Barbara Duty

August 20, 1938 — May 8, 2022

Barbara Lynn Jackson Duty, a resident of Baton Rouge, LA passed away peacefully on May 8, 2022 at the age of 83.  She was born in Montpelier, LA on August 20, 1938 and was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School, where she was a member of the Majorette team.  After graduating high school she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the U.S. Department of State, ultimately advancing to a management position.  She was able to travel and tour Germany during her time there.  While in D.C. she made many lifelong friends and met her husband Kirby, the love of her life, who was then serving as a Marine. They married and had their first son before returning to Baton Rouge, LA where her second son was born.

Once settling down in Baton Rouge, Barbara worked as a homemaker and was a very devoted wife and mother.  She doted on her children making sure they had memorable vacations, birthday celebrations, and country drives.  As a family they often played card games and enjoyed discussing current events.  She was an active member of Zoar Baptist Church and served as a Sunday School Teacher.  In retirement she and husband Kirby traveled extensively with their Sunday School Class, visiting Alaska, Canada, China, England, and Israel.

Survived by her sons Gary D. Duty (wife Debra) and Kirby Andrew Duty (wife Rosalyn); grandchildren Alec Warren, Peyton Luneau, and Mason Warren; Brother-in -Law Frank Duty (wife Peggy); nieces and nephews; and cousin Hillary (wife Shirley).  Preceded in death by her husband, Kirby E. Duty and parents, Earl Darwin Jackson and Lois Watson Jackson.  Visitation will be Saturday, May 14, 2022 from 9:00 am until Funeral Service at 11:00 am at Zoar Baptist Church (11848 Hooper Road, Baton Rouge).  Interment will follow in Zoar Baptist Cemetery.

Pallbearers:  Alec Warren, Mason Warren, James Chadwick, and Ronnie Brown.  Honorary pallbearer:  Peyton Luneau.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Salvation Army USA (https://www.salvationarmyusa.org/usn/) in Barbara’s name.
