Barbara L. Guidry

August 31, 1936 — November 9, 2023

Baton Rouge

Barbara Louque Guidry, 87, died peacefully at her home on Thursday November 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Lutcher, Louisiana on August 31, 1936, to parents Roland J. and Emmeline F. Louque.  She was a proud alumna from the St. Anthony High School, Baton Rouge, Class of 1954.  Shortly afterwards in 1955, she married her high school sweetheart and future attorney, Carl A. Guidry, and they began their lives together raising a family.  In the mid 1960’s, they moved to the newly formed St. Thomas More parish and have been faithful parishioners there for over 60 years.

Barbara was a loving, gentle, humble, beautiful soul and as the mother of eight children, she was also undeniably strong, patient, and resourceful!  Her faith was deep and personal, and the love and support of her husband and children over the years was a model of self-less giving and sacrifice. For years, she fished the marshes of South Louisiana for redfish and specs with Carl, loved playing Pokeno with her friends (The Dirty Dozen) and was the proudest grandmother and great-grandmother there ever was!

Barbara is survived by her husband of 68 years, Judge Carl A. Guidry (retired), children; Thomas Guidry (Margaret), Stacie Whitesell, Kevin Guidry (Dr. Kathy Guidry), Gregory Guidry (Susan), Gerard Guidry, Susan Aguilar (Jim Dutcher), David Guidry, and Stephanie Aucoin (Paul). Also survived by 14 grandchildren: Desiree Byrd (Jordy), Joseph Aguilar (Kandice), Matthew Guidry (Monet DuPlessis), Emily Guidry (Danny Ryan), Erin Aguilar Russo (Aldo), Marie Guidry, Ross Guidry, Luke Aucoin, Jude Aucoin, Cecilia Leo (Nicholas), Peter Aucoin (Harmony), Lucy Aucoin, Anna Aucoin, Audrey Aucoin, and great-granddaughter, Aife Ryan.  She is survived by sister-in-law Anne L. Louque along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Emmeline Louque, brother Dr. Roland J. Louque, Jr., In-laws Louis and Edna Guidry, son-in-law Larry Whitesell, brothers/sisters-in-law Lee and Clotilde Guidry, Larry and Edna Mae Laughrey, nephew Richard Louque and great-grandson Xavier Myles Aucoin.

Our family extends a very special thank you to Dr. Lauren Barfield, and Pinnacle Hospice, nurses Brandi, Cait & Barbara and all the Hospice team. And very special friends, Fr. Frank Uter, Fr. Eric Gyan, Jim & Leigh Pitchford, Shirley, Julie, Darlene, Myrna & Oceania.    We are thankful for your support and love for our Mom and our family.
