Barbara Mckinney

February 13, 1933 — March 21, 2022

Barbara Rose Spore McKinney, 89, passed peacefully on March 21st after a full and blessed life. She is survived by her sons, William “Billy” Hoyt McKinney, Jr. (Marilyn) and George Harvey McKinney (Lori); grandchildren, Michael Hoyt McKinney (Hollie), Matthew Tyler McKinney, Claire Walworth (Jon) and Jennifer Dupree (Wayne); great-grandchildren, Kaylie Marie McKinney, Cameron Rose Lucas and Dayton Lee McKinney, Emily and Juliet Dupree; and dear friend Shannon Stage (Steve). She was preceded in death by her husband, William Hoyt McKinney; parents, George W. Spore Jr. and Eva Lane Spore; granddaughter, Heather Rose McKinney and daughter-in-law Deborah Kellum McKinney. Barbara was born in Memphis, TN, graduated from Jeff Davis High School in Houston, and attended the University of Houston. She and her family moved to Baton Rouge in 1969. Barbara worked as an administrative assistant at The Salvation Army in Baton Rouge for 25 years, retiring in 1995. She was active in several local organizations, including Beta Sigma Phi, the Baton Rouge Woman’s Club, and PEO Chapter W. Barbara was an active member of Broadmoor United Methodist Church. During her final years Barbara called Lake Sherwood Village Retirement Community home, where she enjoyed playing Joker with her friends, interacting with the staff, and participating in activities. Memorial and visiting at Resthaven Funeral home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Saturday, March 26th, from 9 AM until memorial service at 10 AM.
