Barbara Romanowsky

April 28, 1953 — November 21, 2022

Barbara Fredieu Romanowsky, 69, passed away on 11/21/2022 in Baton Rouge, LA.

Born Barbara Jane Fredieu in Shreveport, LA in 1953, Barbara is the eldest of three children born to Bobby and Janice Fredieu. From an early age, Barbara showed a rare intelligence and adventuresome spirit which was matched by her brothers John and Robert. In her youth while attending school in Caddo Parish, she was involved and excelled in everything from the drum corps, to marksmanship, while maintaining a nearly perfect academic record. In these years she developed lifelong friendships with other exemplary women who, like her, went on to become trailblazers in traditionally male occupations. Barbara graduated from Louisiana Tech and then went on to meet and fall in love with her husband Peter Romanowsky while at Texas A&M graduate school. They then both went into employment in different areas of the environmental regulatory business. Barbara retired from the LA Department of Environmental Quality with over 20 years of experience which included work on drafting the Clean Water Act of Louisiana. Barbara has two sons, Daniel and Zachary who attribute nearly every success and happiness in their life to her unwavering love and support.

She is preceded in death by her father Bobby, her brother Robert, and her husband Peter.

There will be a small, private family celebration of her life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation to the Great Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Barbara’s family would like to extend our warmest thanks and gratitude to Sunrise Senior Living of Baton Rouge and The Hospice of Baton Rouge for their exemplary efforts in taking care of and loving Barbara during her twilight years.
