Barbara Townsend Wingate

Barbara Townsend Wingate passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the age of 94. She was born on January 7, 1932, in Rayville, Louisiana, to Lee Roy and Eva Townsend.

Barbara was employed by East Baton Rouge Parish Schools for 17 years. She also worked in her favorite place, Yellowstone National Park, for six years. Barbara loved traveling back to share her love of Yellowstone with her family.

Barbara survived by her six children and their spouses, Kay Calhoun, Robbie and Jerry Alderson, Ronnie and Belinda Wingate, David and Candy Wingate, Mike and Kay Wingate, and Donna Stephenson; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-children, and great-great-grandchildren.

She is proceeded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Robert “Bobby” O. Wingate; parents, Lee Roy and Eva Townsend; sister, Elain Cascio; brothers, Lee Earl, Jesse, and Robert Townsend; and great-grandchildren, Matthew Romano, Colby Connor, and Megan Rennee Romano.

Pallbearers will be Tom Anderson, Bryan Romano, Rustin Romano, Kenley Romano, Lyle Townsend, and Jesse Wingate. Honorary pallbearers will be Brayden Connor, Evan Ard, and Jason Romano.

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Barbara’s life on Friday, September 25, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, 70817. All will be welcomed from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Visitation will continue Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 9:00 AM until funeral services at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
