Barry L. Elkins

Barry L. Elkins, a resident of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the age of 79. He was surrounded by loved ones and left from their arms to the arms of Jesus Christ.

Barry is survived by his wife, Angela; his two daughters, Barrie Hidalgo and Amanda Elkins, and his two sons, Mathew Lopez and Parker Elkins. He is also survived by Charles Elkins, II (brother), Connie Bradford (sister), and four grandchildren who include Riley Hidalgo, Rhodes Hidalgo, Caleb Babin, and Olivia Lopez. He is preceded in death by his father, Charles Elkins, his mother, Amelia Elkins, and his brother, Alan Elkins.

Barry graduated from Broadmoor High School in 1964. He attended LSU and received a bachelor’s degree in Zoology with a minor in Chemistry. In 1991, he attended Southern Law School to receive a Juris Doctorate Degree, ranking in the top ten of his class. He and Angela opened Magnolia Title of Baton Rouge, LLC. in 1994, which they continued to operate to this day. Until two weeks ago, Barry was still going to work, closing loans, and reading abstracts just as he did in 1994.

In the later years of Barry’s life when he was not at work, he studied the Bible and taught Sunday school at his home church, Indian Mound Baptist Church. He was always looking for a way to share the good news of Jesus Christ to anyone who wanted to listen. He left this world with his Bible opened on the kitchen table, preparing to teach the upcoming Sunday school lesson.

Like his father, Barry loved to grow a large garden with corn and peas. He would raise enough for his family to eat on for a year. It made him proud to sit at the table with his family and declare to all, “I grew that!”

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Indian Mound Baptist Church, designating the funds to go to “Operation Christmas Child”. Barry and Angela worked all year for the past eight years to collect items such as toys, clothing, school supplies, toiletries, etc. to fill Samaritan’s Purse shoe boxes for children aged seven through fifteen. In November, these special boxes are collected by Samaritan’s Purse and go across the world to introduce Jesus Christ to children who did not know him. All funds received will go towards the shipping costs. This year, Barry, Angela, and Indian Mound Baptist Church Youth Group are sending six hundred wonderfully packed boxes.

Barry will be missed by so many, but as he left this earth, he knew he was loved by so many as well.
