Betty Nelson

Betty Ann Frye Nelson passed away at her home on April 2, 2021. Betty was born December 26, 1931 in Maryville, Tennessee, to her parents, Robert and Iva Frye.

After high school, Betty trained as a nurse and began her lifelong passion of taking care of others. She met the love of her life, Gunner Nelson, while in nursing school and they were married in August, 1950. They moved to Baton Rouge in 1959 where they resided for the rest of their lives.

Betty enjoyed music, playing hand bells, and singing in the church choir. She loved to travel with Gunner, both in the US and abroad. After Gunner’s death, she continued to travel, introducing her grandchildren to the wonders of Europe. Prior to her illness, she had visited dozens of countries, enjoying the scenery, cuisine, and meeting new friends.

Betty is preceded in death by both of her parents; her two sisters and their spouses; her husband, Gunner; son, Gregg Nelson; and her son-in-law, Mark Stanley. She is survived by her son, Gunner Nelson (wife Mary Anne); daughters, Lisa Stanley and Terese Crifasi (husband Jeff); five grandchildren, Michael Nelson (wife Ellen), Christopher Stanley (wife Melanie), AnnElisa Stanley, Thomas Crifasi, and Nicholas Stanley; and four great grandchildren, Locke Nelson, Nicholas Stanley, Ava Nelson, and Landen Nelson.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home on April 10, 2021, from 12:00 PM until services at 2:00 PM. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
