Beverly Boudreaux Engels

Beverly Boudreaux Engels, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the age of 95. She was born on June 15, 1931, in Lutcher, Louisiana, to Camille Joseph Boudreaux and Blanche Griffin Boudreaux.

After fate intervened on a double date with her sister, Beverly met and then married the love of her life, James Henry Engels, Sr. Their family was anchored in faith. They were loyal servants whose commitment to bring others to the Lord was evident in all they did including regular prayer services at their home and other venues, missionary work in Belize, pastoring a church in Plaquemine and ministering to many in need. They walked faithfully with Him until their last days.

Her husband’s career gave them the opportunity to see the world, and Beverly’s support for his success gave their children unique upbringings living abroad in Abadan, Iran for two years and travelling throughout Europe, experiences others only dreamt of. They settled in Central, Louisiana making countless friends and impacting the lives of more people than she ever could imagine.

Beverly is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband of more than 65 years; their sons Gary Engels, Keith Engels, and Eugene Engels; her brothers, Raymond Boudreaux and Louis Boudreaux; and her sister, Verlin B. Murphy.

Beverly is survived by her loving children, James "Butch" Engels and wife Sheri, Cheryl Rioux and husband Paul, and Michael Engels and wife Jami; her daughters-in-law, Melanie Engels and Elizabeth Engels; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

While most of her life was dedicated to church and community, Beverly enjoyed spending time outside tending to her yard. Her famous chicken stew, gumbos, potato salad and sweet tea were the highlight of many family gatherings. Above all of this, it was who she was at her very core that inspired so many. Beverly was always content and found joy in helping others. She was family-focused, easygoing, loving and tender with a heart of gold. While was often soft spoken, as her children learned growing up, she could be stern when needed. The values she instilled in her family and others will have her live on in our hearts for years to come.

We find comfort knowing that Beverly is now reunited with those who went before her and resting in the presence of our Lord and Savior.

Relatives and friends are invited to Visitation on Friday, June 26,2026, beginning at 1:30 p.m., with Funeral Service beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
