Beverly Mayeux Rabalais, 95, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 14th, surrounded by family in the comfort of her home on Archery Drive, where she had raised her children and welcomed generations of cherished memories since 1962. Beverly leaves behind a legacy of endless warmth and incomparable kindness. She was a woman who could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like old friends within minutes. Though she is gone, the echoes of her infectious laughter, lively stories, and the joy she brought to every conversation will live on in all who knew and loved her.
Beverly was born on July 21, 1929, to parents, Nettie T. Mayeux and Louis C. Mayeux in Brusly, Louisiana. She was brought up in Hamburg along with her beloved clan of brothers, Frank, Louis, and Murray. Though nicknamed “Petie” due to her petite stature, she exuded a larger-than-life personality and spirited wit from a young age.
In 1949, at just 19 years old, she graduated with honors from ULL with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. She later earned her certification in early childhood education from LSU, driven by her passion for instructing young minds.
Beverly worked 21 fulfilling years as an educator, first in the communities of Simmesport and Arabi, and finally at St. Thomas More Catholic School in Baton Rouge, where she enjoyed many years teaching pre-K and kindergarten. Known for her patience, gentle encouragement, and playful sense of humor, Beverly was a natural with children.
Beverly’s life was deeply rooted in faith. She was a devoted and active parishioner at St. Thomas More Catholic Church for over 60 years, and her spiritual commitment extended well beyond Sunday mass, as evidenced by her dedication to organizations such as The Catholic Daughters of America Ct. #1915 and the parish’s nursing home ministries.
Beverly is preceded in death by her dear husband, Eulan C. Rabalais, to whom she was married for a memorable 54 years filled with laughter, companionship, and devotion. She is survived by her daughter, Michele Rabalais; son, Randy Rabalais and wife, Jennifer; and the light in her later years, her adored grandchild, Kristen.
The family would like to offer a heartfelt thanks to Beverly’s wonderful caretakers, Mona, Tammy, Amanda, and the whole team at Audubon Home Health, for their diligent and loving support.
The visitation and funeral service for Beverly will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Visitation will begin at 12:00 PM, and the rosary will be led by the Catholic Daughters at 12:30 PM. The funeral mass will begin at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Beverly’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a cause close to her heart.
Those we love don't go away,
They walk beside us every day.
Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed, and very dear.
