Charles "Charlie" E. Manning

August 19, 1948 — May 16, 2026

Charles "Charlie" Edgar Manning, 77, a resident of Gonzales, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at the Southeast Louisiana War Veterans Home.

Charles was a proud United States Marine who served his country during the Vietnam era. He came from a deeply patriotic family with generations of military service. Following his military service, Charles dedicated 32 years to the Social Security Administration, where he retired as an Assistant District Manager. He took great pride in helping others and was widely respected for his kindness, professionalism, and unwavering dedication.

Charles shared a devoted marriage with his beloved wife, Betty. Together they built a life centered on love, family, laughter, and steadfast support for one another. He deeply loved his children and grandchildren and always wanted the very best for each of them. He also cherished the close bond he shared with his sisters and brother.

Anyone who knew Charles knew of his love for golf, science fiction, classic films, history, and politics. His humor, storytelling, and natural ability to connect with others made him a friend to many — Charles truly never met a stranger.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; his children, Kimberly J. Wells (Dwayne) and their children, Colton and Kinley; John W. Manning (Sera) and their children, Donovan and Zaveon; Sheila Kress (Ron) and their sons, Michael, Haydn, Kaleb, and Kamden; Charlene Sue Blount and her daughters, Kristen Renae May (Brooks) and Ellie Sue Blount; stepdaughters Melissa N. and her daughter, Ava E; Christina B. Accardo (Keith) and their daughter, Sophia E; and Elizabeth A. “Beth” and her daughter, Charleston. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Michael Benton and Ripp Wylder.

Charles is further survived by his siblings, Cesar Manning, Susan E. Hoefer, and Diana J. Suender, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William A. Manning and Joyce F. Manning; his sister, Rose V. Ulibarri and her husband, Ron; and his uncle, Charles “Issac” Manning.
