Charmayne Faye Bohman

March 1, 1937 — June 17, 2023

Charmayne Faye Stewart Bohman, 86, was reunited with her husband, Henry “Martin” Bohman, on Saturday, June 17th, 2023. She and Martin met when they were just 15 years old, and their love lasted a lifetime. High school sweethearts, and soulmates, they married in 1958 and made their home in Westminster, California, where they raised two children and lived for over 70 years, before moving to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 2012.

After graduating from Bellflower High School, Charmayne earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Southern California and a Master of Arts degree in Educational Psychology from California State University, Long Beach. She became a high-school teacher, a vocation she practiced for many years, while she raised her two children. Yet, always curious and eager to seek out new challenges, Charmayne eventually returned to her studies and pursued an advanced degree. She earned a Ph.D. in Education from Claremont Graduate School and then went on to work as a college professor at California State University, Dominguez Hills, for nearly four decades, a job she truly loved. During her time at CSUDH, she served as Chairperson for the Graduate Education Department and Coordinator of Graduate Studies. Her passion for teaching was apparent to the many students she inspired over the course of her career.

In addition to her dedication to educating future generations, Charmayne was committed to her community. She was elected in 1992 to serve as a Councilwoman for the City of Westminster, she was also on the Board of Directors for Soroptimist International of Westminster, and a member of her local School Board. She served as President for the Huntington Beach Union High School District Board of Trustees, the Westminster Coordinating Council, and the Coastline Regional Occupational Program. She was devoted to helping people, and often volunteered her skills as a psychologist, providing group therapy to cancer patients and ER nurses in local hospitals. In Baton Rouge she became an active member of the congregation, and a devoted member of the Bible Study, at South Baton Rouge Presbyterian Church.

Charmayne is survived by her daughter Kimberly Susan Bohman Kalaja (Dorjan Kalaja); her son Martin Stewart Bohman (Laci Bohman) and her two grandchildren, Grace Ann Bohman and James Douglas Bohman.

Charmayne lived a full and charmed life, which she was blessed to share with her husband, family, and many friends. Charmayne and Martin’s fruitful lives, and their commitment to each other, will be celebrated in a joint memorial service on Saturday, July 1st, 2023 at Resthaven Gardens of Memory & Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM and will continue until their memorial service at 11:00AM. A reception to celebrate their lives and love will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home immediately following their service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you show your love for Charmayne by making a donation to The MJF Foundation for Parkinson’s research.
