Dr. Chevies L. Newman passed away on Monday, April 20, 2026.
Dr. Chevies was born in Texarkana, Arkansas. He later earned his Doctorate and became a well-known and trusted dentist in the Baton Rouge community. After becoming a dentist, he became a Captain of the United States Army, spending time in Vietnam. He was a member of the YMCA as well as the Louisiana Dental Association.
Dr. Chevies was an avid enthusiast of fishing and golfing, especially in the company of those closest to him. He could also be found helping his wife with their horses on the ranch, but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Dr. Chevies is survived by his loving wife, Jan Newman; daughter, Jolie Renee Newman; son, Chevies Wayne Newman (Sonya); and grandchildren, Camille Newman, Matthew Delaney, and Taylor Delaney.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Chevies L. Newman, Sr. and Evelyn Shields Newman; and mother and father-in-law, Don and Doris Inzenga.
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life from 5:30-7:30 PM on Thursday, May 14, 2026, on the side porch at Mike Anderson’s, located at 1031 W. Lee Dr., Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70820.
