Christopher D. Cockrell, a native of Lafayette, LA, and a resident of Baton Rouge, LA, completed his life journey on February 19, 2026, at the age of 56.
Christopher Cockrell was a family man. He loved his wife of 35 years, Rebecca, his kids, Kristen and Canon, and his grandchildren, Cruz and Gage, more than words can express. He valued time with them above all else. Chris was a friend to everyone he encountered, and he never met a stranger. He had a big heart and always encouraged those around him. It was rare to see him without a smile.
Chris was also a proud and successful entrepreneur. After a lifelong career in wealth management, he became an independent financial advisor. He was well regarded by his many clients, who he considered friends.
Chris loved music and was an extremely talented guitarist and singer. He enjoyed performing and making his audience smile and dance. He was also a member of the Southern Muscle car club. He was the proud owner of a red 1959 GMC truck—which he decorated to look like Mater for trunk-or-treats and other kid-focused events. He often used his talents and hobbies to spread joy and touch lives.
Chris is survived by his wife, Rebecca Cockrell, his children, Kristen Cockrell and Canon Cockrell, his brother, Brad Cockrell (Karen), his sister, Lerri Cockrell, his mother, Jackie Cockrell, his grandchildren, Cruz Cockrell and Gage Extine, his father-in-law, Thomas Bourgeois, his sister-in-law, Stephanie McGowan, his brother-in-law, Brian Bourgeois (Meghan), his nephews, Tucker Cockrell (Danielle), Cord Cockrell, Brody Cockrell, Jamie McGowan, and Matt McGowan, and his niece, Maizy Bourgeois, as well as a large extended family—all of whom will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Cockrell, his mother-in-law, Priscilla Bourgeois, and his brother-in-law, Jim McGowan.
Visitation will be held at Istrouma Baptist Church - Ascension Campus, 39258 LA-42 Prairieville, LA 70769, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
