Dare Lee Oliver passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was 77 years old. One of six children, he was born October 24, 1945, in Mobile, Alabama to William Oliver and Henrietta Piemme Oliver. Dare received his bachelor's degree in business from South Alabama University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
He met the love of his life, Jeannette Gill Oliver, at a friend’s birthday party…they have been married for 54 years! He is survived by his wife; their son, Justin Oliver; their daughter, Christina Oliver McMurray; and his sister, Henrietta Slade. Dare loved being a ‘Poppa’ to his six grandchildren: Reagan, Keith, Makenzie, Brooke, Lucas and Jessica. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Nina and his cat, Bentley. Dare is preceded in death by his parents; and his son, Byron "BJ" Oliver.
Dare loved camping, hiking, and fishing. He would often spend time reading and gardening. Dare and Jeannette spent many years taking their family camping, with trips to Indian Creek and the Smoky Mountains. The mountains were special to Dare, and he was able to recently spend time there with Jeannette in May.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
