David W. McDonald

August 3, 1952 — July 7, 2023

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

“The Lord is my Shepard; I shall not want.” David W. McDonald, 70, entered heaven peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Friday, July 7, 2023, after a long and hard-fought battle with cancer. David was a native of Alabama and a die-hard Alabama fan; Roll Tide. He moved to Texas in 1975 and worked in the petrochemical industry for 46 years, creating infrastructure for tank terminals for various companies. He moved to Baton Rouge after retirement, but he never lost his love for Texas and Alabama.
David was born on August 3, 1952, in Fairfield, Alabama. He was the youngest child of Bryant and Jane Odell McDonald, and he had five siblings. He was a favorite uncle to his many nieces and nephews, because of his kind, gentle spirit and his fun-loving ways. Family was everything to David and he loved with his whole heart, always putting his loved ones’ needs above his own. Even in death, he never complained and was generous to a fault. When asked how he was doing, his answer was always “living the dream!”
David is survived by his loving wife, Donna Boyd Cutrer McDonald; his three children, David Owen McDonald (Heidi) of Nederland, TX, Scott Barrett McDonald (Anneka) of Kansas City, MO, and Melissa Renee Garza (Ben) of LaPorte, TX; two step-children, Cristy Davidson (Craig) and Lance Decuir (Yury)Decuir; and six grandchildren, Katelyn and Gavin McDonald, Benny and August Garza, Zoe Davidson, and Adrian Decuir. He is also survived by his three siblings, James Ellis (Obie) Evans (Keri), Ralph Bryant McDonald (Deb), and Carolyn Joyce Mosley (Don); numerous nieces and nephews; his sisters-in-law, Sharon Boyd Rogillio (David), and Belinda Boyd Wallace (Bob); his brother-in-law, Rodney Boyd (Liz); the mother of his children, Susan Monteith McDonald; and his faithful puppy, Ella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bryant Whelchel McDonald & Jane Odell Evans McDonald; his sister, Harriet Jane Morgan; his brother Thomas Wayne McDonald; and his granddaughter, Amada Joy McDonald.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Cataldo, the nurses at Our Lady of the Lake Infusion Center, and the doctors and nursing staff at Ochsner Hospital.
