David was born on September 30, 1963, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. As a young child, David moved to Pasadena, Texas, with his family. He attended Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena. His family returned to Baton Rouge while he was in high school, and he graduated from Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge. After, David attended LSU and received a Bachelor’s of Science in Quantitative Business Analysis. During undergrad, David played on LSU’s rugby team and was Vice-President and New Member Educator of the Pi Kappa Theta Fraternity, where he met his best friend for life, Bill Dares. David then attended LSU Law School, where he was Freshman Class President and served as Professor William Crawford’s research assistant.

Upon graduation from LSU Law in 1991, David moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, and began his legal career. During David’s career, he was a partner at Bodenheimer, Jones, & Szwak, and he was a true pioneer in consumer credit law and identity theft. Since 2006, David served as the Chairman of the Consumer Protection Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association. David’s contributions to the legal community in Louisiana are vast, as he has numerous published works and has given lectures throughout the state. Over the last few years, David has had the joy of mentoring two of his children, John and Sarah, throughout their law school journeys. David was a practicing attorney up to his last days, and he was putting the finishing touches on his book, The ABC’s of the FCRA.

Outside of his legal career, David served as the Bossier Little League President from 2012 to 2017 and coached his children, and many other young athletes, in football, baseball, and softball for many years. David sponsored the Shreveport Mudbugs hockey team and enjoyed going to the games. He was an avid LSU fan and loved to watch LSU football and baseball. David’s favorite activity was to fish and ride in the boat while his son, Sam, would captain. David loved to spend time with friends, family, and his beloved pets, especially his cat, Cheddar. After years of living in Shreveport, David moved back to Baton Rouge in 2021 to receive better medical care with the goal of a renal transplant. This past April, David was finally able to marry the love of his life, Stephanie, after years of being partners, and they had a beautiful wedding.
