Donnie Moore

Nov 24, 1944 — Jun 2, 2026

Donnie “Papa” Moore, 81, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2026. Donnie was born on November 24, 1944, in Monroe, Louisiana to Dorothy King and James H. Moore. He graduated from Ferriday High School in 1963, where he sported the #31 in varsity football, baseball, and track. Donnie was voted the “friendliest” in his senior class. He enjoyed returning to Ferriday for his annual high school reunion to catch up with old classmates and tell stories. He retired from Deltech Corporation, Foster Grant, American Hoechst, Hoechst-Celanese after approximately 40 years of service as a Maintenance and Electrical Supervisor.

In post-retirement, Donnie showcased his life’s work in his pristinely kept workshop. He spent every second he could woodworking in his shop. Even after his ability had declined, he would sneak in to make sure everything stayed organized. He was a fixer with a tool for everything. When he wasn’t in the shop, he was working in his yard, mowing the grass and tending to his vegetables.

Donnie was truly one of a kind - a character in the best sense of the word. He was known for his quick wit, infectious sense of humor, and endless collection of stories. He never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to strike up a conversation and make people feel like old friends.

He devoted his life to his family and was always willing to do anything for those he loved. Family was the center of his world, and his generosity, loyalty, and love will be remembered by all who knew him. He cherished time with his grandchildren and the grand dogs.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Abby K. Moore; two sons, Dr. D. Allen Moore, and his wife, Lisa, and Jeff K. Moore; two grandchildren, Braeden and Graycen; one selected grandchild, Madi Fakouri; sister, Regina Bowers; brother-in law, Duane Keenan; nephew, Donald Keenan, and his wife, Amanda; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy King Moore; stepmother, Eula Moore; father, James H Moore; two brothers, William K. Moore and James Moore; brother-in-law, Michael Bowers; and sister-in-law, Maybell Keenan.

His legacy of love, laughter, friendship, and devotion to his family will continue through all the lives he touched. Donnie will be deeply missed and remembered by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Visitation from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge.
