Donald "Deedle" Vicknair, Sr.

Donald “Deedle” James Vicknair, Sr, a native and resident of Greenwell Springs, Louisiana, passed away at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge at the age of 86. He worked in maintenance and was a  cabinet maker before becoming the “Paw Paw”  working maintenance at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church and School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, and spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dennis Jacob Vicknair and Noelie Kilner Vicknair; sisters, Shirley Vicknair Robinson and Margaret Vicknair Rogers; and his brothers, Douglas Vicknair and Roy Vicknair.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joy Lambert Vicknair; children, Donald J. Vicknair, Jr. and his wife Susan and Suzonne Vicknair Cowart and her husband William Brett; grandchildren, Trey Vicknair and his wife Judy, Drake Cowart and his wife Katelyn, Danae Cowart Cassels and her husband Cade; great-grandchildren, Brentley Vicknair, Tucker Cowart, and Halley Cassels; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge, on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. until the Funeral Service is held at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

The family would like to give special thanks to the medical staff at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, especially KB and Abdul.
