Dorothy “Dottie” Tatum Kanada was born on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, in New Orleans, Louisiana and passed away peacefully in her mother’s arms on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 18 days old.
Dottie was deeply loved by her family and friends, who faithfully covered her in prayers before she even entered the world. She loved gazing at the star lights in her room, and we find peace in knowing she is now held in the arms of Jesus, looking upon the beauty of the sky alongside our loved ones who have gone before her. In her brief but precious 18 days, Dottie touched the lives of so many. Every person who was blessed to meet her is forever changed and reminded of the beauty of even the shortest life.
Dottie is survived by her loving parents, Justin and Mallory Kanada; brothers, Liam White and Grant Kanada; as well as her grandparents, great-grandmother, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Steven F. Tatum; great-grandparents, Ray and Mary Etta Tatum; great-grandfather, Harry N. Gainer; and great-grandparents, Sammy and Dorothy A. Kanada.
Visitation will take place at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Saturday, February 14, 2026, beginning at 9:00 AM until a Mass of Christian Burial is held at 10:00 AM. Burial to follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dorothy’s name to The Louisiana Pediatric Cardiology Foundation or Maddie’s Footprints.
