Dr. Douglas Kiamco Mendoza, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of 61. Douglas was born on September 29, 1964, in Manila, Philippines, and his life became a beautiful tapestry woven from the threads of both Louisiana and Filipino culture. A dedicated physician, Dr. Mendoza earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University School of Medicine in Shreveport, as well as his Masters in Business Administration from LSU. Following graduation, he completed his Internal Medicine internship and residency at Ochsner Hospital, later pursuing fellowships in Critical Care Medicine, Cardiology, and Interventional Cardiology at the LSU Medical Center in New Orleans. His practice flourished at Ochsner Health Centers in Hammond, Baton Rouge, and Covington since 2006, where he practiced as the Cardiology Section Head for three decades. A Board Certified specialist in Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology, Dr. Mendoza was known for his expertise in cardiac and peripheral vascular interventions, with special medical interests in Critical Care Medicine and congestive heart failure. His dedication extended beyond his practice; he was an active member of the American Heart Association and served on the Board for the YMCA.
Doug was the eldest of four siblings and embraced the richness of his heritage. He found joy in Louisiana crawfish boils, cheering for the Saints and LSU football, savoring Filipino cuisine taught by his father, and honoring traditions passed down from his mother. In his leisure time, Douglas cherished cooking and spending quality moments with his family, often attending his sons' sporting events and school activities.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Jose Jimencz Mendoza and Dr. Lida Kiamco Mendoza.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 21 years, Kelly Mendoza; his sons, Jose Lane Mendoza, and Julien Luke Mendoza; and his step-children, Angie Ward Goulette, and Patrick Ward; grandchildren, Karli Goulette, Kobi Goulette, Karmryn Nawadny, and Landon Ward; his sister, Jacqueline Kiamco Mendoza Hayes (John T. Hayes); brothers, Ike Kiamco Mendoza (Mark Powell) and Jose Kiamco Mendoza, Jr. (Christy Mendoza); and his nieces and nephew, Ashley Mendoza, Clara Mendoza, and Jonathan Hayes.
