Earl R. “Skip” Abshier, Jr. passed away on May 21, 2023 at age 75 after battling cancer for the last two years. He is survived by his wonderful wife of 49 years, Cynthia, sons Trey (Brandy) and Josh (Natalie) and four adorable granddaughters, Harper, Piper, Savannah and Penelope and an unborn grandchild due in November, and his brother Dennis. He is preceded in death by his parents Earl, Sr. and Maxine and brother Michael.
Skip was a native of Florida but spent most of his life in south Louisiana. He was a graduate of Slidell High School and Southeastern Louisiana University. He spent most of his working career in sales with the last 29 years in the industrial water treatment business.
Skip enjoyed muscle cars, music and working in the yard, but most of all he enjoyed watching his two sons grow up into fine young men with families of their own.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel LaVie, Julie Gomez and the entire staff at Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center for their care and compassion over the last few years. The family would also like to thank Pinnacle Home Health nurses, Sara and Jennifer, and Clarity Hospice of Baton Rouge for their care and compassion.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Resthaven Funeral Home with a service at 11:00 AM, inurnment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Cancer Services Center of Baton Rouge, or a charity of your choice.
