Edna Bates Oliver passed away Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at the age of 95. Edna was born to Robert and Cornelia Bates on January 5, 1930, in Eufaula, Alabama.
She was a resident of Alabama prior to moving to Baton Rouge, where she worked as an administrator for Loupe, Cramer, Loupe, and Irwin Orthopedic physicians. Edna enjoyed cooking, bowling in her league, watching the University of Alabama football and, she loved country music! Her greatest joy was her family and the variety of pets she had through the years which included a monkey, a skunk, a talking parrot and cats, and her favorite, dogs, whose names were tied to Alabama football. Her red hair was an indication of her personality— sassy and outspoken, but kind and loving, with a quick sense of humor.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Ward H. Oliver, formerly of Mobile, Alabama; two children, Robert E. Southerland (Patsy) of Birmingham, Alabama and Gayle Fridell of Goliad, Texas; three step-children, Linda Konstanzer of Joplin, Missouri, Michael A. Oliver (Melinda) of Gainesville, Georgia, Edward A. Oliver (Kris) of Mobile, Alabama; ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
