Eleanor Newman

A retired consultant for Harrison Paint Co. and a secretary at Burden Research Station at LSU, she died at 6:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 27, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. She was 81, a resident and native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from noon until service in the chapel at 2 p.m., conducted by James H. Gill Jr. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Survived by a sister, Nancy Peveto, Jackson, Miss.; brother, Charles J. Pugh, Little Rock, Ark.; sister-in-law, Bernice Newman Carcara, associated with the Ellis Newman family from Osyka, Miss.; numerous nieces and nephews; close friends for about 50 years, Henrietta W. and Jack E. Jones and Fred and Sarah Smith; and a very special friend, caregiver and her angel, Mildred Reese. Preceded in death by her husband, Vernell Newman; parents, Brodie and Mouton Heard Pugh; sister, Martha Jane Pugh; and brother, James Brodie Pugh. She was a charter member of University Baptist Church, a member of PEO Chapter W and the American Legion Auxiliary. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
