Elizabeth Wilton

February 4, 1930 — November 11, 2022

Harriet Elizabeth Heard Wilton, devoted wife and mother, passed away on November 11, 2022 in Baton Rouge. She was born February 4, 1930 to Thomas P Heard and Harriet Elizabeth McKnight Heard in Baton Rouge where she was a lifelong resident. As a child she spent summers with her grandparents in Colfax and in Pitkin, helping with farm chores and swimming in Six Mile Creek. She attended Baton Rouge High School and LSU where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi.

Elizabeth married the love of her life, Billy Wilton, and they raised their five children in University Hills where she lived for 85 years. The birth of their youngest child formed her life’s work teaching special needs children and mentoring their families. She knew that success was possible, and wished it for each of her special babies.

Elizabeth was a coordinator extraordinaire, planning and scheduling activities, chauffeuring and cheerleading her five children and their friends. She and Billy especially enjoyed cheering Dean on at Special Olympics meets.

In retirement she rekindled friendships through travel with Daytimers, Busy Bodies exercise class, her bridge groups, Tuesday Lunch Bunch, and PEO, Chapter W, where she was a 55 year member. Good food, friends and fun were a constant in her life. Elizabeth treasured her circle of steadfast friends who shared stories, celebrated milestones and supported each other through joys and sorrows.

Elizabeth was devoted to her church family and was a charter member of University United Methodist Church. She taught Sunday School, helped spearhead Camp Adventure, served on the Care Team and Daytimers planning committee. She loved serving and joyfully worshipped Sunday mornings on“Widow’s Row”.

She was a card shark, enjoyed her backyard birds, and loved all things LSU Tigers.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, William Jean Wilton, her parents, brother, Thomas P Heard, Jr and sister, Florence Adele Larguier.

“Miss Bootie” took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored.
