Ella Hernandez

January 7, 1931 — February 10, 2021

Ella Maxine Thirlaway Hernandez, age 90, a resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away at home on Wednesday, February 10, 2021.  Ella was laid to rest on February 13, 2021 in Baton Rouge.

Ella was born on January 7, 1931 in Louisville, Colorado to Alberta Ferguson Thirlaway and William Thirlaway.  In 1950, Ella met Terrance Edward “Terry” Hernandez in Denver, Colorado where he was stationed at Lowry Air Force Base.  Not long after they met, Ella and Terry eloped and got married in Raton, New Mexico.  After leaving the Air Force, Ella and Terry moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  In September 2020, Ella and Terry had been married for 70 years.

Ella is survived by: her husband, Terry Hernandez; her sister, Verla Magruder; her sister-in-law, Tanya Hooks; her son, Eddie Hernandez (Brenda) and his children Patrick Smith (Melissa), Eddie Hernandez, Jr (Kristin), Jeffrey Hernandez (Amy), and Angela Nicoll (Shane); her daughter, Carol Hernandez Guidry (George) and her children Amanda Maloy (Terry) and Sonny Guidry; and her daughter, Patricia Hernandez Talbot and her daughter, Nikki Pierce.  Ella loved her 19 great-grandchildren: Tristan Blacklock, Peyton Pierce, Hailey Pierce , Brooke Ella Pierce, Christian Katz, Savannah Katz, Brandon Katz, Logan Maloy, Madelyn Guidry, Nathan Hernandez, Anna Hernandez, Evan Hernandez, Ellie Hernandez, Brody Hernandez, Grant Hernandez, Ashley Schenk, Amber Smith, Andi Metrejean, and Tristan Nicoll.

Ella was preceded in death by: her parents, Alberta and Awra Park and William Thirlaway; her brothers, Laverne Thirlaway, Kenny Thirlaway (Chris), and Wilfred Thirlaway (Beverly); her sister Isabelle Hudson and her husband Chuck Hudson; her brother-in-law, Willard Magruder; her nephew, Gary Hudson; and her granddaughter’s husband, Michael Pierce.
