Elsa Lee Denny

Elsa Lee Denny passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the age of 95, 15 days shy of her 96^th birthday.  She was born April 26, 1928, to Frank and Hazel Holmes in the rural farming community of Climax, Kansas.  She was one of 5 children, including Morton, Horace, Mardelle and Philip.

Elsa Lee moved to Eureka, Kansas after her high school graduation; it was here that she met her future husband, Raymond “Gus” Lester Denny. Gus worked in the oil fields and that work took them to many different places including Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma; Opelousas, Louisiana; Lake Charles, Louisiana, Corpus Christi, Texas and Lafayette, Louisiana. They retired to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to be close to their family. 

Elsa was a proud, loving wife and generous mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a wonderful homemaker, cook and baker. She was an avid LSU sports fan who enjoyed softball, football, basketball, and baseball.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband. Elsa is survived by her son, Jim Denny and wife, Candy Brignac Denny; her grandchildren, Robyn Denny and husband, Wyler Murray and Reed Denny and wife, Taylor Denny; and her great-grandchildren, June, Henry, and Olson. 

Also left to cherish her memory are her sister, Mardelle Clogston; her nieces and nephews, Steve Clogston, Debbie Hellar and Marsha Clogston; and her special friends Kathy Scanlan and Joan Cockerham.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. in Baton Rouge on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 4pm – 7pm and continuing Monday, April 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. until funeral services begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
