Evan “Mason” Newman passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the age of 25. He was born on December 1, 1997, in Baton Rouge, LA. He attended Parkview Oaks Elementary and Riverdale Christian Academy. Mason loved playing sports from the young age of 5 when he played t-ball and basketball through Healing Place Church. He played tackle football with YMCA at ages 9-11. Mason played baseball on the first RCA baseball team for two years. His position was catcher and outfield however one season he played all nine positions. Mason’s true love was basketball which he played at RCA for 6 years. He was the starting point guard and captain of the varsity team his sophomore through senior year. Mason’s goal in life was to become a professional chef and open his own restaurant. He had a passion for cooking and music. Boiled crawfish and smoked meats were his specialties. He loved to share his cooking with family and friends. Mason loved life and lived it to the fullest. He never met a stranger and was always the life of the party. He was the best son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend you could ever have.
Mason is survived by his parents James Gary, Sr. and Molly Roy Newman, his brothers Jamie and Nicholas Newman, his nephew Logan Newman, maternal grandmother Patricia C. Roy.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Lester Richard, Roy Jr., and his paternal grandparents Samuel Marvin & Hazel “Dugan” Newman.
Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 pm at Resthaven, 11817 Jefferson Hwy, Baton Rouge, LA on Monday, April 24, 2023. Memorial services will begin at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor Noah Whirley.
