Fenelon Nunes

Apr 6, 1943 — Sep 20, 2026

Fenelon Nunes, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and man of deep faith, passed away on September 20, 2026. Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on April 6, 1943, Fenelon lived a life defined by faith, family, hard work, integrity, and love for others.

Fenelon met his best friend and the love of his life, Luzia, on Copacabana Beach in 1978. They married on August 18, 1979, after a year of courtship, and spent more than 47 years by each other’s side. Their love, friendship, and loyalty to one another was the center of Fenelon’s life.

In the early 1990s, Fenelon and Luzia moved their family from Brazil to the United States in pursuit of a better life and greater opportunities for their son, Daniel. They believed deeply in the American dream and sacrificed greatly to give their son that gift. Daniel’s life and accomplishments are a reflection of the hard work, courage, and sacrifices of his parents.

A lifelong learner who deeply valued education, Fenelon earned multiple degrees from Louisiana State University in civil engineering and business. He went on to work for the LSU Petroleum Engineering Department for over 20 years. He truly loved his work, the people he worked alongside, and the students he had the opportunity to help and influence. He retired from LSU in 2020.

Fenelon was a man of tremendous integrity who worked hard, loved life, and genuinely cared for people. He was always thinking of others and often placed their needs before his own.

His Catholic faith was central to his life. Fenelon loved God, Jesus Christ, and the Blessed Mother Mary. For many years, he could be found on Sunday mornings attending Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church at LSU. His faith guided how he lived, loved, and treated others.

Above all, Fenelon loved his family. He cherished his wife, Luzia; his son, Daniel; his daughter-in-law, Julie; and his beloved granddaughters, Stevie and Reese. He was fond of his many nieces and nephews and shared a special bond with Kimberlee, who became like a daughter to him and Luzia and held a cherished place in their family.

Fenelon is survived by his beloved wife, Luzia; son, Daniel; daughter-in-law, Julie; granddaughters, Stevie and Reese; sisters, Marilda and Marilha; brother, Fernando; his nieces and nephews; and Kimberlee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Yvette and Fenelon; his beloved grandmother, Eugênia; his sister, Lourdes, “Lou”; and his uncles, Carlos and Paulo.

Fenelon leaves behind a legacy of faith, sacrifice, integrity, and love. His family takes comfort in knowing that the faith that sustained him throughout his life has brought him home. They have no doubt that he will see the face of God and is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
