Gary Bradshaw

December 30, 1954 — April 9, 2021

Gary Bradshaw, 66, beloved husband and father, was called to his eternal resting place on April 9, 2021 after fighting a 13 month battle with stage four pancreatic cancer. His family and his oncologist, Dr. Sanjay Juneja, were in awe of his strength and resilience.

He entered this world on December 30, 1954 in Lincoln, KS, born to Ernest and Cleta Bradshaw. He was one of fourteen children. In the early years of his life, his family moved quite a bit, but ultimately settled in Salina, KS. He made Baton Rouge his home in his late twenties. He is survived by his wife Dana S. Bradshaw; daughter Katherine (Kate) Bradshaw; stepdaughter Jessica Sanchez; step grandsons Lee and Luke; and son-in-law Jose Sanchez.

In the final weeks of his life, he lived with his daughter, Kate, who he fondly referred to as Katie. They were two peas in a pod from the moment she was born. Although they shared a special bond, she is sure that he decided to say goodbye rather than hear her say “Dad, I have a great idea!” one more time. That sentence typically cost him money or a loss of brain cells. He loved to laugh and he loved to make others laugh even more. He was an avid reader, a constant movie watcher and took great pride in his work in the construction industry (and fixing his daughter’s mishaps!). There are very few landmarks in this community that he didn’t have a hand in constructing alongside his brothers, Tom and Ben. And finally, the one thing we can all agree on is that his only true love was his cat, Pouncer, but we will continue to believe we came in a close second.

We will miss his love, humor and laughter until we meet again. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 25 from 3 to 5pm at the Old Governor’s Mansion, 502 North Boulevard, Baton Rouge 70802.
