George Arthur Ramer, affectionately known by everyone he met as Chicken George, was born on July 12, 1947, in Plentywood, Montana to Harold and Beverly Ramer. George’s parents relocated to Louisiana when he was 6 months old and eventually opened Ramer’s Grocery, a neighborhood store on Inniswold Road in Baton Rouge. George grew up working in the store in multiple capacities but what he looked forward to the most were the opportunities to carry the groceries home for one of the neighborhood girls who lived only 2 doors down from him. George continually sought to woo his childhood crush and with the help of some friends eventually started dating her. He married Brenda Arrington on December 24, 1967. On the day of his passing, they had been married for 57 years, 4 months, 3 weeks, and 2 days and he was still charming her! On one particular date they went on, he made an early prophecy that they would make beautiful babies together - they went on to have two daughters, Brenda Sue and Kimberly George. In 1983, George & Brenda relocated to Florien, LA to purchase a chicken farm where he picked up the moniker, Chicken George. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in his shop – as a self-taught carpenter, he designed and built numerous pieces of beautiful wood furniture that adorned their family home. Another favorite pastime was hosting weinie roasts, complete with hayrides, for family and friends and he was also an avid bird watcher. George loved his family immensely and displayed that daily in word and in deed, but his deepest devotion was to his Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ. The man who, in 1973, did not want a cross on his headstone and instead opted for a fleur-de-lis turned into a true servant of God. George never met a stranger, and God used his affectionate spirit to bring others to Him. People were naturally drawn to him and he graciously embraced everyone. George was called to heaven on May 17th. Those left to forever cherish his memory include his wife, his daughters, his bonus daughter, 5 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, his siblings, a host of nieces & nephews, and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, his sister, and some of his best buddies. The family would like to invite all who knew and loved George to join them as we commemorate his life.
