Gerald Eugene Moses, Jr., passed away peacefully in his home on August 13, 2026. He was 94. He was born in La Porte, Texas, on February 27,1932, and graduated from Lamar High School in Houston in 1950.
He joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve in 1949 and served with the First Marine Division in Korea from 1950 to 1951. He attended the University of Texas and graduated from North Texas State College in 1957. The same year, he married the love of his life, Marian Gill, with whom he was married for 60 years.
Gerald is survived by his four children, Ernest Gill Moses, and wife Marcy, of Houston, Texas; Lawrence Kent Moses of Prairieville, Louisiana; Allen Keith Moses, and wife Marie, of North Richland Hills, Texas; and Mary Elaine Smith, and husband Gary, of Sarasota, Florida; grandchildren, John Moses, Kenneth Moses, Jennifer Perez del Burgo, Spencer Moses, Emily Keckler, Alison Madden, and Christina Karp; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father, Gerald Eugene Moses, Sr., mother, Mary Belle Walker; stepfather, Ernest C. Walker of Lakeway, Texas; sisters, Carolyn McElrath of Nocona, Texas, and Nancy Vowell of Lakeway, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was a retired journalist, employed as a correspondent for United Press International for four years, a political reporter for the Morning Advocate for fifteen years, and an editorial editor with the Baton Rouge State Times for fourteen years. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Baton Rouge.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at First Christian Church, 8484 Old Hammond Hwy in Baton Rouge, on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with a service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy in Baton Rouge.
Donations in Gerald's honor may be made to First Christian Church of Baton Rouge.
