Gwen Davis Crouch

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Davis Crouch passed away peacefully at home on August 18, 2026.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana on February 1, 1940, she grew up in the close-knit community of Gramercy. After graduating from Lutcher High School, she moved to Baton Rouge to attend Louisiana State University, where she got a degree in early education. She began and ended her teaching career in the Baton Rouge area where she devoted 35+ years to teaching elementary school. Her passion for teaching and commitment to her students earned her the honor of Teacher of the Year, a recognition that reflected the lasting impact she made in the classroom in the lives of the many students she taught.

Gwen shared a love story of nearly 63 years with her husband, Melvin “Tony” Crouch. They built a life rooted in love, faith, commitment and devotion to one another and family. They were rarely seen apart, often walking hand in hand - a simple reflection of the deep love and companionship they shared throughout their life together. As proud LSU graduates, they remained devoted Tiger fans throughout their lives, holding season tickets to multiple LSU sports.

She was the beloved mother of Erin and Eddie, cherished grandmother of Ryan, Amanda, Lincoln, Brodie, and Kameron, and doting great grandmother of Florence and Margot. Her house was full of love and became the gathering place for family, holidays, celebrations, and everyday moments.

Gwen cherished the friendships she made throughout her life, career and while participating in Seniors on the Go, BREC Busy Bodies, her church community, amongst many others.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Gerald Miletello and the oncology team at Our Lady of the Lake, Dr. William Russell and the team at Ochsner MD Anderson Cancer Center, and Hospice Baton Rouge for the compassion, kindness, and support they provided.

Gwen is survived by her husband, Melvin “Tony” Crouch; children, Erin Crouch Ferguson (Darrell) and Edwin “Eddie” Crouch (Dollie); grandchildren, William “Ryan” Ferguson, Amanda Ferguson Frazier (Cameron), Lincoln Crouch, Brodie Crouch, and Kameron Eckland; great-grandchildren, Florence Frazier and Margot Frazier; siblings, John “Bud” Davis (Judy), and Judy Davis Stamper. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stark Livingston Davis Jr. and Nita Marie Rivoire Davis.

Visitation will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Ln., Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
