Gynne Marie Malstrom Klimavicz, a beloved Baton Rouge resident, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, at the age of 92.
Gynne, a dedicated health‑care professional and community stalwart, began her journey at the St. Raphael School of Nursing, where she earned her RN credentials with distinction. Her clinical acumen was sharpened during an intensive internship at Boston Lying‑In Hospital, a historic maternity center renowned for its compassionate care. Impressed by her skill and bedside manner, the hospital invited her to join its staff.
Beyond the hospital corridors, Gynne’s life was anchored in her Catholic faith. For more than thirty years she was a faithful parishioner at St. Jean Vianney. Her spiritual commitment naturally extended to a network of charitable groups. As a proud member of the Krewe of Iris, she helped bring color and joy to the city’s Mardi Gras celebrations while raising money for local shelters. Her involvement with Beta Sigma Phi—an international service fraternity—saw her coordinating health‑screening clinics for underserved neighborhoods, and through the Welcome Wagon she greeted new residents, offering practical assistance and a warm, neighborhood welcome.
Gynne’s legacy is a tapestry woven from professional excellence, unwavering faith, and selfless service. Whether delivering newborns, leading prayer circles, or mobilizing volunteers, she embodied the principle that caring for the body and the spirit are inseparable acts of love. Her many affiliations and decades of devotion continue to inspire those who walk the halls of St. Raphael, the wards of Boston Lying‑In, and the pews of St. Jean Vianney alike.
For more than six decades Gynne was a steadfast member (and State President) of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, where her generous spirit and tireless dedication left an indelible mark on countless community projects. An avid bridge player and perpetual volunteer, she found joy in bringing people together—whether around a card table or through the many charitable initiatives she championed. Those who knew her recall a woman whose kindness was as steady as the rhythm of her favorite pastime, always ready with a smile, a listening ear, and a helping hand.
She is survived by her husband of 67 years, John Klimavicz; their daughter, Karin Klimavicz -Deen; their son, John Klimavicz II (Hyon‑Sun Chong) and daughter-in-law, Dana Klimavicz; eight cherished grandchildren—Christopher Klimavicz, Michael Klimavicz (Julia), Jason Klimavicz, Lily Klimavicz, Victoria Solderitch-Richardson (Meghan), Stephanie Pennington (David), Jonathan Ware, and Brandon Klimavicz—plus seven great‑grandchildren. Gynne was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna (Banik) Malstrom, her brother Robert Malstrom, and her son Jeremy Klimavicz.
Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, LA 70817, on March 12, 2026 from 12:30 p.m. until the memorial service at 2:30 p.m., followed by burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory. Friends and family are invited to view the full obituary, sign the online guestbook, or leave a personal tribute to the family at www.resthavenbatonrouge.com.
