Harold E. Reid, beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at the age of 95. Born and raised in Central, Harold was born on December 13, 1930, son of the late K. Frank and Ruth C. Reid. After graduating from Central High School, Harold proudly served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement, Harold worked as an operator for Allied Chemical (Honeywell). He was a lifelong member of Zoar Baptist Church, a community that was central to his life.
Harold was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, deer and squirrel hunting, and cherished time spent cattle farming or in his garden. In his leisure time, you could often find him on his porch, tracking the weather and counting cars on Joor Road.
Harold is preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Mary Jane Campbell Reid; his parents, Frank and Ruth Reid; sister, Ruth Morgan; and brothers, Edward Reid and Frank Reid.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary Lou Smith Reid; children, Debora K. Reid-Palmer (James), Randy Reid (Debbie), and Byron Reid (Peggy); step-children, Tee El Webb (Robbie), Tanya Byrd, and Cathlene Crain (Mark); grandchildren, Kellie Syfert (Mitch) and Randi Reid Bascom (Dan); and five step-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Harold’s devoted sitter, Tiffany Bertholot; as well as Brianna with the Hospice of Baton Rouge; and Tanya Byrd, Tee El Webb, Mitch and Jewell Freeman for their kindness and support.
The family would like to invite all who knew and loved Harold to join them as we commemorate his life. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at Zoar Baptist Church, 11848 Hooper Rd, in Baton Rouge, from 10:00 AM until funeral services at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Hwy., in Baton Rouge, at 1:00 PM.
