Helen M. Rushing

Helen Marie Rushing, born in Lynn Haven, Florida on May 17, 1939, passed away peacefully at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on August 25, 2026. After graduating from Bay County High school in Lynn Haven, Florida, she moved to Baton Rouge and began working for the Louisiana Department of Transportation where she met the love of her life, Hollis B. Rushing. They married on April 9, 1960 and were married for 66 wonderful years. They made Baton Rouge, Louisiana their home. She was a mother and grandmother who loved her family above all else. They had 3 sons and 2 grandsons and she devoted her life to caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She lovingly cared for her grandsons during their early years and loved every minute of it. She was a long time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. She loved her Sunday School class and regretted not being able to attend regularly for the past 4 years due to health issues. She was an excellent seamstress who made a lot of her children’s clothes. She and her husband were avid NASCAR fans and traveled throughout the country to attend weekend races. She loved Elvis Presley, Tom Jones and David Phelps.

She leaves behind her loving husband of 66 years Hollis B. Rushing; three sons, Steven Rushing, Jeffrey Rushing and Brett Rushing; Daughter-in-laws, Becky Rushing, Renee Rushing and Lisa Rushing; and one grandson, Benjamin Rushing.

She was predeceased by her father, Harold Geho; mother, Louella Geho; brother, Edward Geho; and grandson, Christopher Rushing, who passed away due to Muscular Dystrophy.

The family would like the thank Joyce Anderson, her sweet aide, who took amazing care of her. Helen loved her dearly.

Visitation will be held at Resthaven Funeral Home, 11817 Jefferson Hwy. Baton Rouge, LA 70816, on Friday, August 28, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
