Herman Brignac

December 19, 1930 — July 18, 2022

Romans 8:6

For to be carnally minded is death. But to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Herman Charles Brignac went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 18, 2022, at the age of 91.  He was a native of Head of Island, LA, and was born on a strawberry farm off the banks of the Amite River. He graduated from Maurepas High School and Southeastern University.  Herman was also an Army veteran and retired from the East Baton Rouge Parish School System and the City of Baton Rouge.

Herman enjoyed gardening, raising strawberries, vegetables, and flowers.  His favorite seeds to nurture were the seeds of education.  He was a teacher for nearly 30 years in East Baton Rouge and Pointe Coupee Parishes. His teaching career included teaching at Livonia, Istrouma, Claiborne, and North Highlands.  Herman enjoyed his summer months working with BREC on the North Baton Rouge Playgrounds.  He was a member of Istrouma Baptist Church and was a long-time first Grade Sunday School Teacher.  Herman had a gift for sharing the story of Jesus with children and those stories will be missed.

Herman is survived by his wife of 67 Years Loretta Dixon Brignac, his younger brother Wesley Brignac, a son Aubrey Brignac, Daughter Eva Kelley (David), son in-law Wendell Morris, Grandchildren, Ginger, William “Billy”, Jake (Brittany), Rhett, Chelsea (Guy), Christine, and Michael. His great-grandchildren Gavin, Evie, Kaylea Jo, Sara, Everett, and Tessa and nieces and nephews were very special to him as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Hettie Brignac, his twin brother Oray Ulysses Brignac and a daughter Elva Ruth Brignac Morris.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of Baton Rouge staff, doctors, nurses and aides for their patient care. Thank you to Dr. Guidry, Dr. Arthur Smith, Dr. Petty and Dr. Ehrlick for years of care.  Special thanks to members and staff of Istrouma Baptist Church for visiting, praying and caring.  Thank you to our Care giver, Carlette Burrell, for the love and care provided.
