James Beck

James Marvin Beck Sr., of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, April 7^th, 2024, at the age of 90. Jim was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 14^th, 1933, son of the late Sidney Franklin Beck Sr. and Ona Hendon Beck. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict from 1951 to 1955. He later attended Ole Miss, where he was a member of Fraternity Delta Psi, and met the love of his life, Suzy Morgan. After earning his bachelor’s in business administration, James went on to work as a commercial underwriter at State Farm. 

An active member of Broadmoor Methodist of Baton Rouge, Jim found joy in playing golf, following sports, and supporting his alma mater, Ole Miss. In fact, he never missed an opportunity to watch Ole Miss beat LSU (much to the dismay of his friends and family). 

James is preceded in death by his parents Sidney Franklin Beck Sr., and Ona Hendon Beck; brother Sidney Franklin Beck Jr.; nephew John Timothy Beck; and his in-laws Louis and Thelma Evelyn Morgan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Suzanne Morgan Beck; daughters Jennifer Beck Leetz (Jason); sons Louis Morgan Beck Sr. (Deanna), and James Marvin Beck Jr. (Tami); grandchildren James Marvin Beck III, Louis Morgan Beck Jr., Aubree Beck Dugas, and Cody Beck; six great-grandchildren; and his cherished pets Sophie Lynn and his namesake Sadie Gem.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Audubon Hospice staff Gine, Katie, Gail, Sonja, Becca, and Lorraine, for their support and compassion during a very difficult time.

The Beck family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring Jim's life at Resthaven Funeral Home on Friday, April 12, 2024. Visitation will be held from 12:00 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm, officiated by Rev. Kennon Pickett. A graveside service will then take place, concluding the commemoration of a life well-lived.
