He was chosen as a delegate by the International Farm Youth Exchange to the country of Luxembourg in 1954.  He lived with farm families to spread goodwill between the people of Luxembourg and the USA. He was a graduate of LSU with a degree in agriculture, and served on a number of agriculture committees and associations. Bert was a lifetime member of the Louisiana Cattleman’s Association and American Angus Association, also served on the Farm Service Agency (formerly ASCS), and was the Past President of East Baton Rouge Livingston Parish Soil and Water Conservation District. He was employed by LSU as Associate Director of LSU Life from 1957-1997. During these years, he was active on campus serving as President of the LSU Staff Senate. He was tapped to be a member of the ODK, a National Leadership Honor Society. He was also active in the Baton Rouge community, where he served as President of the Capital City Kiwanis Club and Christmas Tree Chairman. As president, he established the LSU Kiwanis Club. Bert was an avid LSU Football fan, deer hunter, and fisherman.
