Dr. James S. Langley

Dr. James Sidney Langley entered into eternal rest on Monday, August 3, 2026, at the age of 89.

Jim was born February 27,1937, in Kinder, Louisiana, to Isaac Langley, Sr. and Hysinth Leger Langley.

After graduating from Fenton High School, he attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL). Driven by a lifelong love of learning, Jim went to earn his Doctors of Dental Surgery degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry.

He practiced general dentistry at Patrick Air Force Base, Opelousas and Baton Rouge before pursuing his true passion of orthodontics. He completed his orthodontics residency at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey. He maintained a successful private orthodontic practice in Baton Rouge for five decades, serving patients and families until his retirement.

Jim proudly served his country on active duty in the United States Air Force Medical Service Corp at Patrick Air Force Base, Florida.

He felt the greatest influences in his life were his parents who helped shape his faith and values. A devout Catholic, Jim was a faithful parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He readily acknowledged his beloved wife, Char’s faith and sacrifice. He often said he had a good life and was proud of his children and grandchildren while encouraging their education.

He enjoyed traveling, fishing and enthusiastically played basketball, golf, and was an avid sports fan who followed LSU athletics.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Isaac and Hysinth Langley, Sr.; brothers, Curtis Langley and Isaac Langley, Jr.; sister, Ruby Heintz and Florence Langley; and his stepson, Damon Futch.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Charlotte Frantom Langley; his children, Brent Langley (Susan); Kevin Langley (Donna); Byron Langley (Heidi); stepsons, Rick Futch (Dee); Landon Futch (Louise); and his cherished grandchildren, Courtland, Connor, Landon, Ben, Lauren, Kate, Connor F., and Ian who called him Paw Paw.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Father Michael Miceli at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 12424 Brogdon Lane in Baton Rouge, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Resthaven Gardens of Memory, 11817 Jefferson Highway in Baton Rouge with rendering of Air Force Military Honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St Vincent DePaul. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to devoted caregivers Debra, Tyra, Irma, Amanda and Veronica whose compassionate care, spirituality and friendship meant so much to Jim and Char. Honorary Pallbearers include Leroy Slack, Buddy Weber.

Jim touched countless lives over the years, often in ways that may never be fully known except by those who were blessed by his kindness, generosity, wisdom and wit. His legacy lives on through his family, his faith, and the many people whose lives he made better.
